Kevin Hearne: Hunted

Hunted (The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book Six)
by Kevin Hearne
narrated by Luke Daniels
(contemporary fantasy)

I mentioned in my last review of the Iron Druid Chronicles that I wasn’t sure if I would be continuing with the series. Well, HUNTED convinced me to keep reading. (Or in my case, listening. I really enjoy Luke Daniels’ narration.)

As a basic description of the plot, our three heroes (Atticus, Granuaile, and Oberon) are all running for their lives. Other things happen, but during much of the book, they are running for their lives. There is a little fighting, a little banter with gods and vampires, and a lot of humor. (Sadly, there is no bath-time, so Oberon doesn’t have a full-blown fad to get into. But he’s still got plenty of humor to share.)

What I liked about it best was that Atticus was back to trying to live and let live. I really liked that about the first book, that he got drawn into a conflict he wasn’t seeking out. (And it was what I liked least about the third book.) It was also great to see the interplay between all three of them, as well as some of the other gods we haven’t seen much until now. The Polish witches make a cameo appearance as well, and that was fun. I’ve missed them.

The vampire problem sub-plot continues in this book, but as with everything else – even Ragnarok – it takes a backseat to surviving. There were a lot of other things that happened, but going into them too deeply will spoil things that I really don’t want to spoil, so I’ll leave it at this: Atticus is back. Maybe not as humble as he should be, but there’s something lined up for book 7 that should help beat some sense back into him, if that’s still possible at this point.

Yes. I’m going to keep going with this series. It just got interesting again.
