Maverick: Wired
Wired
by Liz Maverick
(romance, spec fic)
Wired is another SHOMI book, and like the other two (Driven & Moongazer) it was a fun read. However, unlike the other two, it took me a while to get into it. I had no connection with the main character at first, and since my main point for reading is the characters, I had some moments where it would have been very easy to put the book down and not pick it back up.
The plot is enjoyable, however, with several twists and turns – at times you don’t know which way is up, not to mention who is the bad guy and who is the good guy.
I hesitate to call Wired a “romance,” as there is only one sex scene, and it lasts about a paragraph. However, it is a romance on the spine, and SHOMI is a romance line. There is a main romance featured in the book, even if the main character’s memory has been Swiss-cheezed (like in Quantum Leap!) and doesn’t remember the romance from chapter to chapter.
Even though I didn’t find this book as compelling as the other two in the line, it was certainly worth reading. I don’t regret buying it.
